About Betsy
Adopt Betsy, a gentle young rescue dog who is still learning that people can be trusted. She may not be the dog who rushes over to greet you straight away, but for someone willing to give her time, Betsy has the potential to become an incredibly rewarding companion.
Betsy was one of five puppies found hiding beneath a villa at a local resort. Alongside her siblings, she spent her earliest weeks tucked away from the busy world around her, relying on her mother to keep the litter safe.
When the puppies came into our care, they initially spent time in foster care while space became available at the rescue. During this time they received the veterinary care, nutrition, and socialisation every young puppy deserves. They also gained an unexpected bonus in the form of Mimi, who happily stepped into the role of surrogate mother and helped guide the puppies through their earliest months.
As the puppies grew, it became clear that Betsy was different from some of her siblings.
While dogs like Bobbi were often first in line to investigate something new, Betsy preferred to watch from a distance. She liked to take her time, assess situations carefully, and make decisions on her own terms. Even as a puppy, she was thoughtful, cautious, and sensitive.
Today, Betsy is still nervous around unfamiliar people and new situations. She won’t immediately run over asking for attention and can be hesitant when meeting strangers. Instead, she prefers to observe first and decide when she feels comfortable.
What we’ve learned about Betsy is that pushing her doesn’t help—but patience does.
Given time and space, her confidence begins to grow. The nervousness slowly fades, curiosity takes over, and her personality starts to shine through. People who spend time with her often discover a completely different dog from the one they first met.
Once she trusts someone, Betsy becomes affectionate, playful, and surprisingly cheeky. She enjoys gentle fuss, loves treats, and has a playful side that appears more and more as her confidence grows. The trust she gives isn’t immediate, but that’s what makes it so special when it happens.
Betsy takes a lot of confidence from the other dogs around her and enjoys living in a social environment. Having grown up surrounded by canine companions, she gets on well with other dogs and often looks to them for reassurance when faced with something unfamiliar. For this reason, she may benefit from living with another calm and confident dog who can help show her the ropes.
As a young dog, Betsy still has plenty of growing and learning ahead of her. Every month we see small improvements in her confidence, and every new experience helps her become a little braver. She simply needs someone willing to continue the work that has already begun.
Betsy isn’t looking for perfection. She’s looking for patience.
She would thrive with adopters who understand that some dogs need a little extra time to settle in and who will allow her to build trust at her own pace. In return, they’ll gain a loyal companion and have the privilege of watching a shy dog slowly discover just how good life can be.
After spending her whole life waiting for someone to see past her nervous exterior, we would love nothing more than to watch Betsy finally find a family of her own.
Adopt Betsy and help this sweet young dog continue her journey towards confidence, happiness, and a forever home.
