About Charlie
Charlie is a sweet and gentle Thai Bangkaew rescue dog who has overcome incredible odds and is now searching for his forever family. Charlie was always on the beach and in the bars from a very young age. He had access to lots of food and a lazy lifestyle. He slowly put on weight and over the years and reached such a large size that he was struggling to stand up and walk.
Charlie had taken to lying in the street and being unable to move was becoming a danger to himself and drivers. We negotiated that it was in everyones best interest if Charlie came to live at the rescue and start his road to recovery and ongoing health.
The first month of recovery was mainly settling him into the new rescue environment and getting him to stand up unaided. Even after just one week he was standing up himself and walking a few meters. After a month of being on a diet and increasing physical activity there was a noticeable difference in his appearance and demeanor. Every month we weighed him and he was steadily losing 2kg in those 30 days. After 6 months of diet and lots of walks Charlie came down to 21kg.
He has such a sweet, gentle personality but can also be very cheeky. He is very good at opening food containers by himself and has even developed a technique of rolling the food containers down the hill to make their lids pop off and reveal the hidden bounty. He is a very intelligent and social dog and enjoys the company of humans and other dogs alike. He knows basic commands and loves treats of course.
