About Colin
Adopt Colin, a loyal senior rescue dog who has overcome a difficult past and is now looking for a calm, understanding home where he can enjoy his golden years.
Colin’s story began many years ago on Koh Tao, where he became a familiar face to many local residents. Originally named Chilli, Colin belonged to a foreign resident who eventually left the island, leaving him behind. Like many dogs in similar situations, Colin suddenly found himself without the person he had known as his owner.
Fortunately, local Burmese workers stepped in to care for him. They made sure he had food, companionship, and somewhere to stay. Colin became a well-known dog in the community and spent many years living alongside the people who looked after him.
As Colin grew older, however, life became increasingly challenging. He developed a strong protective streak and became very loyal to the people and places he considered his own. While this loyalty came from a good place, it sometimes resulted in behaviours that made life difficult for both Colin and those around him. He could be territorial and occasionally reacted poorly when strangers entered spaces he felt responsible for protecting.
Over time, concerns about his behaviour increased and it became clear that Colin needed more support than his informal caretakers could provide. Eventually, he was brought into our care so we could assess his needs and give him the opportunity to live in a more structured environment.
When Colin first arrived at the rescue, he found the transition difficult. Having spent so many years living life on his own terms, adapting to new routines and unfamiliar people wasn’t easy. Building trust took time, patience, and consistency.
One of the first things we did was give him a fresh start, including a new name. Chilli became Colin, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
Slowly but surely, Colin began to settle. As he realised that he was safe and that people were not expecting anything from him other than to relax and be himself, his behaviour started to improve. The more trust he developed, the calmer and more comfortable he became.
Today, Colin is a very different dog from the one who first arrived at the rescue. He enjoys his daily walks and absolutely loves spending time exploring new scents and surroundings. He walks beautifully on lead and is happiest when he can enjoy a gentle adventure followed by a comfortable place to rest.
Colin enjoys human company but prefers relationships on his own terms. He likes being close to people he knows and trusts and enjoys gentle affection, but he isn’t a dog who wants constant fuss or attention. In many ways, he has all the characteristics people often associate with older dogs: independent, thoughtful, and content simply being near the people he cares about.
As an older gentleman, Colin is looking for a home that understands his needs. He would thrive with adopters who appreciate his independent nature, respect his boundaries, and are happy to let him settle in at his own pace. In return, they will gain a loyal companion who enjoys life’s simple pleasures and values the comfort of a stable home.
After everything he has experienced, Colin deserves a peaceful retirement surrounded by kindness, understanding, and security. We would love nothing more than to see this handsome senior boy finally find the forever home he has been waiting for.
