About Sai
Adopt Sai, a gentle rescue dog whose journey is a reminder that trust is something that can be earned with patience, kindness, and time. While she may not be the first dog to run up to greet a stranger, those who take the time to get to know her are rewarded with one of the sweetest companions at the rescue.
Sai first came to our attention when volunteers from another rescue organisation contacted us about a young dog who had been living alone in the middle of a car park. Nobody knew exactly where she had come from or how long she had been there, but it was clear that she was surviving on her own and needed help.
When we arrived to meet her, Sai was extremely nervous around people. She kept her distance, watched cautiously from afar, and made it clear that she wasn’t ready to trust anyone. It is possible that she had spent much of her life without regular human contact, or perhaps had experienced circumstances that taught her to be wary of people. Whatever her past, she had learned that keeping her distance felt safer.
Although she was frightened, there was something about Sai that made us believe she wanted a different life. Beneath the uncertainty was a gentle dog who simply needed someone willing to move at her pace.
After bringing her into our care, we quickly discovered that building trust with Sai would take time. For the first four months, she remained extremely cautious around people. We didn’t force interactions or expect too much too soon. Instead, we allowed her to observe from a distance, make her own choices, and learn that she was safe.
Every small step felt like a victory.
A glance that lasted a little longer. Choosing to sit nearby. Accepting a treat. Allowing a gentle touch. The progress was gradual, but it was steady. Little by little, Sai began to realise that people could be kind, predictable, and trustworthy.
As her confidence grew, her true personality started to emerge.
Today, Sai is a completely different dog from the nervous youngster who arrived at the rescue. She has become affectionate, loving, and eager to spend time with the people she knows. While she can still be a little cautious when meeting someone for the first time, she settles quickly and soon begins seeking out attention and affection.
One of the things volunteers love most about Sai is the transformation that takes place once she trusts you. The shy dog who initially keeps her distance suddenly becomes incredibly affectionate, happily accepting strokes, companionship, and all the attention she can get. The bond she forms with people feels especially rewarding because it has been built on trust and mutual understanding.
Sai enjoys her walks and has grown to love exploring the world around her. She is fully vaccinated, neutered, and in excellent health. She walks well on a lead and enjoys spending time outdoors, taking in new sights and smells at her own pace.
She also gets on well with other dogs and has formed close friendships at the rescue, particularly with Sadie and Blue. Their companionship has helped her continue building confidence and learning that the world isn’t such a scary place after all.
Because of her history, Sai would do best with a family that understands that relationships take time to develop. She isn’t the kind of dog who will immediately throw herself into a stranger’s arms, but she is the kind of dog who forms incredibly meaningful bonds with the people she loves.
For the right person, that connection is worth every moment of patience.
Watching Sai grow from a nervous dog living alone in a car park into the affectionate and happy companion she is today has been one of the most rewarding journeys we have witnessed at the rescue.
Now she is ready for the next chapter of her life.
A home of her own. A family who will continue to build her confidence. A place where she will never have to wonder whether she is safe, wanted, or loved.
Adopt Sai, and you’ll gain a loyal companion whose trust is a gift that has been earned and whose love is given wholeheartedly.
