Shabu

After everything he has been through, we would love nothing more than to see someone adopt Shabu and have him curled up in a home of his own, knowing that he will never again have to wonder where he belongs.

Shabu originally belonged to a Thai couple who, unfortunately, worked very long hours and were unable to provide him with the time, attention, and stimulation that every dog needs to thrive. While they cared about him, their circumstances meant that Shabu spent much of his life tied to a short chain outside their home. With little opportunity for exercise, enrichment, or companionship, his world was very small.

Like many intelligent and active dogs, Shabu longed for more freedom and adventure. Whenever he found an opportunity to escape, he would take it. He would roam around town, exploring the streets and surrounding areas, completely unaware of the dangers around him. While Shabu enjoyed these moments of freedom, they often put him at risk from traffic, accidents, and other hazards. His owners frequently found themselves worried about his safety and unsure of how to manage his growing need for a more fulfilling life.

As time went on, it became increasingly clear that Shabu deserved more than they were able to provide. To their credit, his owners recognised this and made the difficult but compassionate decision to seek help. When they began preparing to move and realised they would not be able to take Shabu with them, they reached out to us and asked if we could offer him a place at the rescue.

We were more than happy to welcome him into our care. Although any major life change can be overwhelming for a dog, Shabu settled into rescue life remarkably well. For perhaps the first time in his life, he was able to experience the simple joys that many dogs take for granted—stretching his legs on long walks, playing with other dogs, exploring new environments, and receiving regular affection and attention from people who genuinely cared about his wellbeing.

It didn’t take long for Shabu’s true personality to shine through. Beneath his difficult start was a sweet, gentle, and affectionate dog who simply wanted to be included in the world around him. He quickly formed friendships with both people and dogs at the rescue and showed himself to be a sociable, intelligent companion. His confidence grew with every new experience, and it has been incredibly rewarding to watch him embrace his second chance at life.

Shabu has become a favourite among volunteers thanks to his friendly nature and easy-going personality. He enjoys spending time with people, happily joining them on walks and adventures, and he loves being involved in whatever is happening around him. He gets on well with other dogs and enjoys their company, making him a great candidate for a home with canine companions.

Since arriving at the rescue, Shabu has learned that life can be about so much more than simply getting through each day. He has discovered friendship, freedom, routine, and the comfort of knowing that he is safe and cared for. Watching him transform from a dog whose world was limited by a chain into one who approaches life with enthusiasm and curiosity has been a privilege.

Now, Shabu is ready for the final and most important step in his journey: finding a forever family of his own. He is looking for a home where he will be loved as a true member of the family, included in everyday life, and given the companionship he has always deserved. In return, he will reward his new family with loyalty, affection, and a lifetime of friendship.
