About Squeak
Adopt Squeak, a clever and affectionate rescue dog who has overcome a difficult start in life and grown into a loyal companion. While she can be cautious when meeting new people, particularly men, those who earn her trust discover a playful, loving dog who thrives on companionship and adventure.
Squeak’s story began when we heard what sounded like a puppy crying near the local dump. Following the sound, we discovered a tiny puppy alone in the bushes with a serious injury to her paw. She was only around four months old and had clearly been struggling on her own.
We brought her straight to the veterinary clinic where she underwent surgery to repair the injury. Thankfully, she recovered well physically, but it quickly became clear that she had experienced very little positive human interaction during her early months.
When Squeak first arrived at the rescue, she was extremely wary of people. She wanted to keep her distance and wasn’t sure whether humans could be trusted. Every new interaction felt overwhelming and she preferred to observe from afar rather than get involved.
Building a relationship with Squeak wasn’t something that happened overnight.
Day by day, week by week, we worked with her patiently, allowing her to move at her own pace. There were no shortcuts. Just consistency, kindness, and giving her the time she needed to realise she was safe.
Slowly, Squeak began to change.
The nervous puppy who once avoided contact started taking treats from our hands. Then she began joining us on walks. Before long she was seeking out attention from people she knew and trusted. Watching her confidence grow has been one of the most rewarding transformations we’ve seen.
Today, Squeak is a loving and affectionate dog with the people she knows well. She enjoys spending time with her favourite volunteers, loves treats, and is always happy to join an adventure. She walks beautifully on a lead, knows basic commands such as sit, and is an intelligent dog who enjoys learning.
Squeak is generally much more comfortable around women and tends to form friendships with them quickly. Men can take a little longer. She may initially keep her distance or appear unsure, but given patience and gentle handling, she gradually warms up and learns to trust. Once that trust has been built, her affectionate personality shines through just as brightly.
She also enjoys the company of other dogs and has formed particularly strong friendships with Red. The two can often be found together, enjoying walks, exploring, or simply relaxing side by side. Having confident canine friends around has played an important role in helping Squeak continue to build confidence.
Despite her cautious nature, Squeak has come an incredibly long way. She is no longer the frightened puppy hiding from the world. Instead, she has become a thoughtful, intelligent, and affectionate dog who simply prefers to take her time getting to know people.
Because of this, Squeak would do best with adopters who understand that trust is something earned rather than expected. She isn’t likely to be the dog who immediately jumps into a stranger’s lap, but she is the dog who forms deep and lasting bonds with the people she loves.
For the right family, watching that relationship develop will be incredibly rewarding.
After everything she has overcome, Squeak deserves a home where she can continue building confidence, enjoy new adventures, and finally experience life as a cherished member of a family.
Adopt Squeak and discover just how special a dog’s trust can be when it’s earned.
